Funky Sushi

22Jun09

This place is mixing Brazil with Sushi. The result is pretty funky. Nice place in NYC for sushi with a twist.

This is a nice place to go for lunch or drinks. Since its not far from the airport also a good place to hang if you come from north and need to kill a few hours before flying out.

StripHouse is a classic really decent steakhouse not far from union square. It serves some seriously great steaks and the side dish orders are really good too. Its a fairly dark place, so probably not good for a summer day – but then again neither is half a grilled cow.

A friend of mine had his birthday dinner at Sonnes Koekken in Koedbyen the other day. Sonnes is normally a catering company but they re make their kitchen into a very nice place to have private events. Perfect for a boys night out dinner or something else special for 10-20 people.

Il Buco is both a very nice place for a date and for a nice eve with friends. Good food and great asmos

For a nice meal – good wine as well as amazing admos – find the small freeman ally and dine at Freemans. Its really small and its hard to book in advance if you are less that 6 people – however, you can always have a drink in the bar while you wait. There is also a really nice separate room for events.

L’hotel is a nice new boutique hotel in the 6th area of Paris. Rooms and service is nice and its not overly expensive. Try to book via www.tablethotels.com as they are often cheaper than calling the hotel directly.

Crazy Bear

22Jul08

Nice restaurant in Fitzrovia, on 26-28 Whitfield Street, close to Charlotte Street. Semi-fancy but reasonably priced, and great food (Thai). Arrive a bit early and grab a drink in the downstairs bar before dinner.

The entrance can be hard to spot, as they don’t have a sign at eye level - look at the pavement, the Crazy bear name is written there.

Just got some suggestions for some smaller, but great NY restaurants from a friend who lives there. I haven’t tried them out yet but definitely will next time there – if anyone else tries them out please post your comment on them here…
